Mega, Poutine, Hookers and Rens have all made the last day, and they’ve all taken different paths to get here. Here is a brief history lesson. I will also add what it will mean to the teams/individuals legacies if they win.
Mega used to be Bad Touch. They were the dregs of the league, always coming in or near last place. Julie once sent an email to her team before the season saying, “Guys, we’re not going to win the championship this season.” She was right. She could send that out every year because Mega has never won. But one season Cheeky joined them and then decided to go to the Butchers. In one of the most classiest moves…no, the classiest move in BTSH history, she gave them a girl named Shelly. Shelly turned into Courtney, Tash, Alec, Gabe, George, Cherie, Frankie and a few other players.
Legacy: George, Cherie, Frankie and Gabe will join a select few players with championships from two franchises. Alex E.M. and Tuckman will have the most years played without a championship removed from theirs.
Poutine always had heart. Brian Sullivan captained the gritty team that always won or lost 2-1. Eventually he left to Col, and Mikey took over. He continued that tradition until he decided to get really good to great players and now they are the best team in the league. Make no mistake, they are the favorites.
Legacy: Sam, Jo and maybe Rose will join a select few players to win a championship on two franchises. I’m not sure if Rose got one with the Lbs.
The Hookers are super interesting. From when they started in 2007 they were the team to beat. They lost the championships in 2007, 2008, and 2010, all while being heavily favored. They finally won in 2013, but lost the next year. Then they became pretty average and I like many, thought they would never win again. All of their great men and women left. I’m not sure who their longest tenured player is. But they have what only a few teams have…amazing attendance and a great T-E-A-M. Outside of Carl the goalie, they have no superstars and in any top conference game they play, the other team has at least the three best players. And that sounds like an insult, but it’s anything but. If I was joining a team in the league, this is the team I’d want to join.
Legacy: It will be everybody’s first championship I believe, but the Hookers second. The Hookers have 5 championship games played, which is prob 2-4th of all time.
The Rens are the newest team in the league, and now have made the semis twice in three years. Both times they got a little break from the playoff bracket, as they haven’t had to face a top conference team, but this team has talent. With Emma, Ryan and some dude named Craig, they have top talent. They have team chemistry as well. They used to be the most fun team in the league but now that Ryan and Pete have girlfriends, and Yehuda’s success on Tinder, they aren’t as much fun from what I’ve heard. I still like them, though.
Legacy: Since the Modern Era (2008-2015) the only team to ever win in their third year of existence has been the 2010 Happy Little Elves. The Rens can join them. They have a lot of similarities.
If the Rens win, Emma will get her first important championship in her lifetime.
